Child Safety Standards

HangTing is an app for adults to make plans and meet in person. Nobody under 18 may use it. These are our standards against child sexual abuse and exploitation (CSAE), published as Google Play and the law require. They apply to everyone who uses HangTing, everywhere.

Zero tolerance

We do not allow any content, conduct or communication that sexualises, exploits or endangers children. That includes child sexual abuse material (CSAM), grooming, sextortion, trafficking, soliciting a minor, arranging to meet a minor, and sharing or asking for sexual images of anyone under 18 — including drawn, AI-generated or "fictional" material.

Keeping minors off HangTing

• HangTing is for people aged 18 and over, and our app store listings are rated 18+.
• Every account must give a date of birth, and the server refuses anyone under 18. Posting plans, applying and chatting are blocked until a valid date of birth is on file.
• Anyone can report an account they believe belongs to a minor (tick "I think this person may be under 18" in the report form). Those reports go to the top of our review queue, and accounts confirmed to belong to a minor are removed.

How to report

• In the app: open the person's profile or the plan and tap Report. Choose the reason that fits and add details.
• By email: safety@hangting.app — our designated child-safety contact monitors this address.
• If a child is in immediate danger, contact your local police or emergency number first.
• You can also report CSAM directly to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (report.cybertip.org), the Internet Watch Foundation (report.iwf.org.uk) or your national hotline (inhope.org).

What we do when we find it

1. Remove it — the content comes down and the accounts involved are suspended immediately.
2. Preserve evidence — we keep what authorities need, securely and only for that purpose, instead of letting the normal 7-day chat deletion erase it.
3. Report it — to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) and to law enforcement where the user is located, including the Directorate of Criminal Investigations in Kenya, as the law requires.
4. Ban permanently — accounts involved in CSAE are banned and not allowed back.
5. Co-operate — we respond to lawful requests from authorities investigating child exploitation.

How we prevent it

• Chats open only between people who have been accepted onto the same plan, and close 7 days after the plan.
• Explicit images can be detected and removed automatically from profile photos.
• Our team reviews reports, and patterns across reports, not just single incidents.
• We never allow users to search for or filter people by age below 18, and we don't show plans to anyone without a valid adult date of birth.

Compliance

We follow the child-safety laws that apply to us, including Kenya's Children Act 2022 and Computer Misuse and Cybercrimes Act 2018, the US federal reporting requirements for electronic service providers (18 U.S.C. § 2258A), the UK Online Safety Act 2023 and the EU Digital Services Act.
